Visits a Chapel and these words, your Religion
Raise your cup for that holy grail that you're sippin'
Free up your mind, I know that it can be a prison
We ain't got much time, you better spend what you were given

I should be aT church but I'm raging on a Sunday
Lie to confess, fuck it, worry 'bout it some day
Baptized in the crowd 'cause they lookin' pretty thirsty
City full of sufferin' take me to the promised land

--- "Raging on a Sunday", bohnes

The Hunters of New Orleans have never been in a better position to ply their craft.  For as long as there have been those who prey upon the Human race, there have always been those who fight back.  These individuals have dedicated themselves to the protection of mankind from the monsters lurking among them, and the eradication of the threats spawned from the abyss.

In the early 2000s, many hunters were prominent in New Orleans.  They were well aware of the tourism that the city was famed for, which made it the perfect hunting ground for Vampires in particular, and other supernaturals.  What they were not ready for was how outnumbered they were.  For every Hunter that stalked the streets of New Orleans, there were at least three Vampires, two werewolves, and countless others.  While many Hunters gain their first experience from witnessing a vampire attack, or perhaps becoming the victim of one, and surviving, the larger World of Darkness often leaves many discourage, and ill-equipped to deal with so many in one place.

The Hunters in New Orleans were mostly solitary hunters, as gathering in large groups tend to draw attention that was detrimental to their health.  It was in fact during one of these gatherings that hunters found themselves under assault by the very creatures they Hunted.  Many hunters died that night, which discouraged many from gathering in large groups in the future, however it did not break their resolve.  The Hunter Society simply found more covert ways to operate and ultimately carry out their mission.

It wasn't until the Society of Leopold arrived in the city did the Hunters finally organize.  The resources at the disposal of the Society was enough to equip many Hunters who joined up with the means to turn the tide of what was almost the extinction of the Hunters within the city.  However, well they were equipped, the Supers had superior numbers, and it was far easier to replace their numbers and faster than recruiting and training new Hunters.  Things were grim, and the supernatural Races were good at covering their tracks, concealing their presence.  There was a drought of Blood, Hunters losing their way and mistakenly Killing humans masquerading as supernaturals on several occasion.  Scrutiny and pressure from their Superiors was the least of their concerns, as the killings were called "Murders" by the Vampire-controlled media, which further went aided in diverting the Hunters' activities in New Orleans.

The turning point was when a group of Cultists, Magi, attempted to tear down the veil that separated the Umbra (the Spirit Lands) from the Skinlands and succeeded.  This was the event that came to be known as "The Sundering."  It was this very event that started the first Corporate war, and also the same event that showed the world that Supernatural creatures exist.  To both the detriment and benefit of the Society of Leopold, the human could no longer deny the existence of these monsters.

Over the next fifty years, Corporations led purges of their own ranks, hiring independent hunters in elite squads tasked solely with the security of their interests from any influences that were not human.  Some Hunters found themselves as members of MaxTac, the elite Law Enforcement Unit of Night City, and other Major cities in the World.  The Corporate Wars devastated New Orleans, but the Hunter Society thrives.

In 2077, Hunters find themselves in one of three places:  Independent Mercenaries for hire, Members of the Society of Leopold, which now holds the Pope's ear, or Members of Elite Hunter Squads owned by Corporations or MaxTac.  Wherever these Hunters find themselves, their objectives remains the same:  If it isn't human, Kill it.

::: Things to Know About Hunters in 2077 :::

  • Playing a Hunter is a Privilege, not an entitlement.

    • Hunters is one of our elite roles, and they have one sole purpose.  This being said, they are -not- protected by the "Reasonable Right to Life" rule.

    • Anyone who seeks to play a Hunter must agree to the disclaimer before being approved to play one.

  • Hunters are Divinely protected.

    • The Same force that gives Hunters their Powers, also protects Hunters from falling to darkness.

    • Hunters -cannot- be ghouled, or turned into Vampires.

      • The Supernatural force that protects their souls will kill them instead of allowing them to rise as vampire.

      • Shih Hunters are the only exception to this, as they are likely to rise as Cathayans upon their deaths.

  • Hunters are not born, they are "chosen".

    • Hunters in this setting do not grow up with knowledge of Supernatural beings, beyond that which is commonly known:  They Exist.

    • Hunters become Hunters after experiencing a Supernatural Phenomenon:  witnessing or surviving a Supernatural attack/moment.

      • Hunters call the moment of their realization "the Imbuing".

  • There is no Cyberware that can detect Superantural creatures.

    • Cyber enhancements cannot detect Supernaturals in this Chronicle.

    • Hunters must rely on their knowledge and abilities to detect and mark supernatural creatures for their hunts.

      • Sorry but you will have to work for your pay.

      • Cyberware helps in the fight, but it is not the key to the game.

  • Hunters are still Mortal.

    • Despite their imbuing, and their abilities, Hunters are still Mortal, and will age normally.

    • Supernatural Mortals can be Hunters, but they do not have the same abilities that other Hunters acquire at their Imbuing, because they are already Aware and awakened to the world of Darkness that is their reality.
