Our Story
A Requiem for Broken Dreams

"Now I know why you couldn't breathe.

You're stuck in a life that you can't leave.

Now I know why you couldn't heal.

You're stuck in a world that you can't feel."

--- The Veer Union. "Living not Alive"

::: Chapter One (2077) :::

- Not the World You Remember -

The world has changed...

This point cannot be stressed enough.  The world is not what you remember.  At one point in history, the human race considered itself the pinnacle of evolution and enjoyed their claimed role of the dominant species of the planet.  Technological advances became a norm and expectation.  The human race was moving full speed toward a brighter future for themselves, without realizing that they were not alone in the world.  The gods of olde were replaced by gods and idols of human creation.  Stories that were once truth slowly began to fade into obscurity, becoming nothing more than mere fairytale for the masses in most cases.  Those who still believed in such tales were regarded as deranged or in most cases, insane, worthy of nothing more than institutionalized rehabilitation to purge such beliefs from their minds.  In the light created by the human race, the world was as mundane as those who walked upon its surface.  That is, until it wasn't.

There were those among the human race who never stopped believing in the supernatural.  Those who knew the truth, passed down through the centuries in hopes of educating future generations on the truth:  the human race is not alone.  Those who understood that when the lights go out, the world becomes a hunting ground for those who call the darkness home.  The very creatures of the fairytales, and human fiction and pop culture are real.

Vampires Exist.  Werewolves exist.  Many other creatures who prey on humanity exist.  For every fairytale told by humans, there is a sliver of truth to them, a sliver of truth that the select few were able to preserve, and hide away from the world.  These begins far outmatched the human race, and unless killed, many would live forever.  Humans were not more than livestock to these beings, and if they were not vigilant, these creatures would run rampant through the world.  This fear was proven to be true.

After centuries of ignorance to the world of darkness, the world was forced to see that others had known.  A hard and undeniable truth was revealed and the human race was not prepared to deal with it.  Those responsible for the revelation were the first targets of the human race's purge, and soon after, others would follow.  These monsters were targeted by the Megacorporations that controlled the world, and they soon discovered how deeply these creatures were rooted in their society.  After all, they have spent centuries, possibly more, living among the human race, manipulating their society without them being aware of it at all.  The invention of cybertechnology did little to help identify the monsters that walked among them, but it did level the battleground.

Now in 2077, the rules of the game have changed.  Specifically in Crescent City (formerly known as New Orleans), the nature of the game is no longer a game of dominance and superiority, but survival.  Many consider this to be Ground Zero, as it was the site of the Sundering, and the First Purge.  Outside of Crescent city, many still find it difficult to believe the news and rumors flooding the scream sheets, but to those who live there, it is a reality that belongs in their nightmares.

The world will never be the same... unless someone does something about it.
