PROLOGUE : The Die Has Been Cast.
Through the dangers of disease he conceived the ideas of Night Guards and Watchmen. A disease worsens with treatment and the remedy is worse than the disease. It is said, for a sick man, there is hope as long as there is life. A sick man dreams to either conquer or die. The Die has been Cast. He holds the wolf by the ears and flies by his own wings. He bid them, "Seize the Day and trust as little as possible in tomorrow. For there is no easy way to reach the stars."

Requiem by Night takes place on Earth, but it is not the Earth we all know and love. This alternate reality of Earth has the existence of magic and beings of otherworldly power and potential.

Our story takes place in the year 2083 where the world is having a resurgence of an Art Nouveau or Art Déco Renaissance. The rich showcase styles of the late 1800s mixed with the glamour of all the ages. For them it’s a merging of old and new and showcasing that they can afford both that sets them off from the masses. The general public wear street wear can resemble our current day and age to a more cyber flair of style. This is also seen in the vehicles, the furniture, and even the lingo of the times.

All supernatural beings are known as real and have been for over 100 years. No human or therianthrope is born in a time where this has not been the case. The only beings that remember the time before are the Vampires, and the magical beings, the Primal and Tide Born. However, within most people’s timeline, there was the newly added Sanctuary Countries for supernaturals. These are countries protected by the UN in the year 2063 that have legalized supernaturals within their borders, and call their lands safe places for all supernaturals to dwell. One of these is the United States, and the city of Bridgeport, CT, also known as the Dark Metropolis.

The Dark Metropolis is a city that is under an eternal night from the Gilded Ones of the Court of the Shadowed Veil that reside in the area. This was a fact of contention between the Primal population and the Vampires of the city. In the year 2078, a civil war started on the streets of Bridgeport between the vampires. The Trinity in power wanted to take power from the Primal, while many of the vampires wished to remain in shared control. This battle resulted in many casualties and a changing of the Trinity to the current three in power and their group the Heart of the Dark Metropolis. Their alliance to the Court cemented a shaky peace between the vampire and Primal powers that to this day results in minor outbreaks and squabbles. However, the war ended with the Calamity of 2079, where an unknown power within the island of Purgatory destroyed much of the island and the Dark Metropolis. The new Trinity set all their resources to assist the human officials to rebuild the Dark Metropolis to new heights as well as set the island to an island resort that spotlights the supernatural in their natural forms and habitats. The Island of Purgatory is considered a national park.

With the influx of people coming into the rebuilt metropolis, the national organization FoE (Friends of Equality) set a branch within the dark metropolis to advocate more for the rights of all types of supernaturals, started with the infected, the Therianthropes up to all the underrepresented people of the city. This both aids and hinders the legal branch of supernatural affairs known as the FBSI (Federal Bureau of Supernatural Investigations). The FBSI agents, or Sheriffs as they are commonly called, are the legalized Hunters and Judges for all supernatural affairs. In addition to the supernatural affairs, they also handle all cybernetic and genetic crimes. Most cybernetic crimes come in the form of stolen street tech or illegal harvesting of cybernetic parts. Most genetic crimes come in the form of stolen genetic code and the illegal possession of code or genetic anomalies known as Darklings. Illegal Hunters are considered the Bounty Hunters and are seen as a large threat in all cities as they work by private contracts and do not follow or adhere to common law. Hunting down Bounty Hunters also is a task for the Sheriffs.
